    Great engine
Bought this Atk engine in 2017 for my 1965 Mustang. The engine looks good and very complete. It replaced my 1966 289. Some bolts need a thicker replacemant, like the ones for the a/c bracket. The initial break in was done with 30 oil, after that it was filled with 10w30 mineral. Don’t forget zddp if it’s not in the oil already. The Holley carburator 4160 came standard with a #31 nozzle and the orange accelarator pump cam. When driving there was an off idle hesitation. After trying different cams and nozzles I got rid of the hesitation when I used a #25 nozzle and the green accelarator cam. Be aware when changing the nozzle that there is also a gasket, and both can fall into the intake manifold. So put a towel, or something else in the carb under the nozzle, so it won’t disappear in the intake manifold. Read also some removed the carb for installing the nozzle. After these adjustmens the car drove very smoothly. Change oil as described in the break in document for the engine. Don’t forget to re-torque the intake manifold bolts and the head bolts. Follow the Ford factory sequence and torque specs. The Weiand 8020 intake manifold has it own torque specs. In my case the head bolt in the middle, outside, driver side, needed almost 1/8 turn to fasten. Also some bolts of the intake manifold needed some new torque. When you keep that in mind, you will have a nice ride. Also great support from Matt from atk.
